0900 – we dipped our tires and started riding west!  Meet the 2016 Bike the US for MS Trans America team!

But, I was up earlier than that, since the sun came up at 6am and enjoyed the coastline.

It was a great, peaceful morning before day 1 of riding.  Breakfast was delicious at the hotel restaurant.

So then we hit the road. Today was mostly flat with a nice tailwind.  First up was Colonial Williamsburg.

It was like being in a time machine!  We stopped to take a pic but mostly kept riding.

Our van drives ahead of us and sets up every 20 or so miles down the road for rest stops.  We all have little cubbies that we fill with snacks that we can eat at each stop.

Today we mostly road on the Virginia Capital Trail, which is a long bike trail that connects Jamestown to Richmond.

It’s a really nice path, no cars, lots of shade and beautiful views.  Probably the easiest day of the whole ride.

The BEST part is that tonight we are being housed at a church in Glendale that caters to cyclists that are riding the TransAmerica trail.

Not only are they offering a warm shower and space inside the church to sleep, but they cooked us dinner!!

So now it’s 730pm.  I’m fed and I’ve blogged.  Time for bed?  🙂

We are rolling at 0715 tomorrow.  80 miles to our next stop!

So far, so good!
